St Columba’s Church

Special Services

Baptisms

After an initial enquiry from parents the vicar, will make an initial visit to your home.

We then invite parents to bring their child for a Thanksgiving for a Child Service, which is usually set within the Sunday morning service at 10 am. This gives parents a chance to thank God publicly for their child and ask His blessing upon them.

A baptism preparation evening at church follows, which godparents are also invited to attend if possible. The main elements of the baptism ceremony are explained and a date for the baptism is agreed. Again, the Baptism Service takes place during the 10am Sunday morning service, which is usually a Communion service.

Weddings

St Columba’s is a breathtaking building inside as its spacious interior makes it a good setting for weddings which is complimented by a pipe organ and an enthusiastic church choir.

We are always happy to hear from couples who would like to get married at St Columba’s.

To help make this possible we are happy to discuss the range of possibilities with you. Couples who both live outside the parish can still marry in the church by attending regularly and going on the Electoral Roll.

Once a wedding is booked, the Vicar will meet the couple for preparation.

Please contact our Marriage Clerk on 0121 355 4340, for further details

Funerals

The Vicar is always available to talk to anyone who has suffered bereavement.

A church funeral is still an alternative to a service at the crematorium and a funeral at St Columba’s is an option if large numbers are expected.

You do not have to be a church member or even have lived in the Parish to hold a funeral service at St Columba’s.

The vicar can offer advice, to discuss the most appropriate type of service and any funeral director can also provide help and guidance.
